A Living Gathering
Rooted in Aloha
Ka ʻAha Hoʻolauna Aloha (KAHĀ) is a living gathering and a gathering in motion. It is a sacred ʻaha where people come together to hanu and hā, breathing together in aloha, while honoring the wisdom of our kūpuna and strengthening the heartbeat of the lāhui. KAHĀ is not simply an event or organization. It is a relational, cultural, and spiritual space rooted in connection, reverence, and shared responsibility.
Our Story
KAHĀ was born from a hō‘ailona, a spiritual sign, rooted in a moe ʻuhane hoʻopālua, a shared dream experience, and guided by Ke Akua, kūpuna, and loea. From its beginning, KAHĀ has been shaped by the understanding that our moʻolelo is not static history, but a living experience carried through breath, practice, language, and relationship.
Inspired by the leadership legacy of Kamehameha Paiʻea and the enduring strength of our aliʻi, KAHĀ honors the past while actively building pathways forward. Mele, ʻōlelo, hōʻailona, and kiʻi guide our gatherings, carrying ancestral mana into the present. Symbols such as the Pueo and the ʻIo remind us of wisdom, leadership, and responsibility, while hula and other cultural practices root us firmly in ʻike Hawaiʻi.
At its heart, KAHĀ is a place of reunion and renewal, a space to rebuild and uplift the lāhui by strengthening identity, relationships, culture, and language. Our guiding call remains:
E hui mai kākou ma o ke aloha no ke kūkulu hou ʻana i kahua ʻonipaʻa no ka lāhui.
Let us come together in aloha to rebuild and strengthen the lāhui.
Through every gathering and connection, we breathe aloha forward into our communities, our work, and the generations yet to come
Our Mission
KAHĀ brings together practitioners of ʻike Hawaiʻi to preserve, perpetuate, and strengthen Hawaiian cultural knowledge, identity, and community. Through learning, mentorship, and collaboration, we create spaces that honor cultural integrity, nurture pilina, and foster ʻonipaʻa, steadfastness in identity and purpose, especially for kānaka maoli and kānaka kākoʻo. Guided by aloha and respect for our kūpuna, we work to uplift the lāhui through knowledge, practice, and collective care
Our Values
KAHĀ is grounded in the aloha ethic, a way of living that guides how we gather, relate, and move forward together. Our values shape every interaction and responsibility we carry.
Aloha: Love and compassion expressed through care for Ke Akua, aliʻi, lāhui, ʻāina, and kānaka.
Hoʻoponopono: Healing, balance, and unity through right relationship and shared accountability.
ʻIke Hoʻoilina: Preserving, perpetuating, and passing on cultural knowledge across generations.
ʻOnipaʻa: Steadfastness in identity, values, and commitment to the lāhui.
Laulima: Collective effort and cooperation, recognizing that strength comes through unity.
Guided by the teachings articulated by Pilahi Paki, we embody Akahāi, kindness, Lōkahi, unity, ʻOluʻolu, graciousness, Haʻahaʻa, humility, and Ahonui, patience and perseverance, as a lived expression of aloha
Our Logo
The KAHĀ logo is a living expression of our identity, rooted in the values of aloha, connection, and kuleana.
Created by kānaka ʻōiwi artist, Rochelle Kapuaokamakahikihou “Rokki” Midro, the design serves as a bridge between our ancestral roots and our modern, global community.
The logo’s intricate design is rich with layers of cultural meaning:
The Power of Unity: At its center, the symbol depicts four figures coming together to form an abstract lauhala weave. Much like the traditional craft, this represents how individuals, when bound by a shared purpose, create a foundation of resilience and strength.
The Elements & Directions: Each form represents the four elements: ka makani (wind), ke ahi (fire), ka wai (water), and ka ʻāina (earth), as well as the four cardinal directions. This reminds us that while our people may now live in the four corners of the world, we remain connected by the same roots.
Balance & Harmony: The symmetry of the pattern reflects lōkahi (balance) and laulima (cooperation), the core of KAHĀ’s mission to uplift communities through culture.
Between the Heavens and the Earth: The gradient of color moving from light to dark was chosen to represent the movement of energy:
“The lighter tones above recall ka lā (the sun), a source of guidance, clarity, and hope, while the grounding dark tones represent ka ʻāina, our mother and sustainer. Together, they embody the reciprocal relationship between lani and honua, the heavens and the earth, reminding us as kānaka that we live and breathe between both realms.”
Our Financials
As a charitable organization, we honor the kuleana entrusted to us by our community. We take great care in stewarding every contribution with integrity, transparency, and accountability. Our financial practices are guided by aloha, responsibility, and a deep commitment to ensuring that resources directly support our mission and the wellbeing of the lāhui.
