With grant support from Kamehameha Schools and donors, KAHĀ hosts Hana Noʻeau workshops that celebrate and preserve traditional Hawaiian arts and craftsmanship. These hands-on experiences connect communities, strengthen cultural identity, and pass ancestral knowledge.

Umeke Making-Workshop

KAHĀ hosted a hands-on workshop celebrating the history, cultural significance, and craftsmanship of the Hawaiian ʻumeke, a traditional vessel symbolizing knowledge and wisdom.

Participants explored traditional materials, learned techniques for creating and caring for ʻumeke, and practiced making kōkō, the woven carrying net used to protect these vessels.

Through storytelling and hands-on learning, the workshop strengthened connections to ʻike Hawaiʻi, celebrated Hawaiian craftsmanship, and helped preserve ancestral knowledge for future generations.
