Rooted in ʻĀina. Woven by Aloha. Connected Across Generations.
A logo is more than a symbol. It tells a story of who we are, where we come from, and what connects us.
For Ka ʻAha Hoʻolauna Aloha (KAHĀ), our logo represents the enduring bonds between Hawaiian people, our ancestral homeland, and communities across the world.
Designed by kānaka ʻōiwi artist Rochelle Kapuaokamakahikihou “Rokki” Midro, it reflects the values at the heart of KAHĀ: aloha, kuleana, lōkahi, and pilina.
The Artist Behind the Design
For Rokki, creating KAHĀ's visual identity was more than an artistic commission. It was an opportunity to express her own connection to Hawaiian culture and contribute to a shared cultural legacy.
In her artist moʻolelo, Rokki describes the experience as deeply personal:
“My hope was not just to design a logo, but to capture a living expression of who we are as a people; rooted in ʻāina, guided by the light of our kūpuna, and united through aloha.”
Her vision reflects a simple but powerful truth: wherever Hawaiian people may live, our shared heritage continues to connect us.
Four Figures. One Shared Connection.
At the heart of the KAHĀ logo, four figures come together in a design inspired by lauhala weaving, a traditional Hawaiian art form that transforms individual strands into something strong and unified.
Each figure represents connection, resilience, and collective responsibility. Together, they symbolize the four elements:
Ka Makani | Wind
Ke Ahi | Fire
Ka Wai | Water
Ka ʻĀina | Land
The figures also represent the four directions, recognizing Hawaiian communities living throughout the world. Like strands of lauhala, we remain connected through shared ancestry, knowledge, and aloha.
A Balance Between Heaven and Earth
The logo's symmetry reflects lōkahi (harmony and unity) and laulima (working together), values that guide KAHĀ's commitment to cultural education and community.
Its gradual transition from light to dark represents the relationship between lani (heavens) and honua (earth), reminding us of the balance between the natural, spiritual, and human worlds.
Every element carries intention, honoring the wisdom of our kūpuna while embracing the generations who will carry that knowledge forward.
One Culture. Many Communities. A Shared Future.
As Hawaiian communities continue to grow across Hawaiʻi, the continental United States, and beyond, KAHĀ's logo reminds us that distance does not diminish connection.
It reflects our purpose: to bring people together, strengthen cultural identity, and create opportunities for ʻike Hawaiʻi to thrive through education, mentorship, and meaningful pilina.
For Rokki, the design is a contribution to that ongoing journey:
“It has truly been a privilege to create a symbol that carries forward KAHĀ’s vision; a reminder that even as our people now stand across the four corners of the earth, we remain interwoven by the same ancestral thread of aloha.”
Our logo is more than an identity. It is a reminder of our shared kuleana to honor where we come from, care for one another, and carry our culture into the future.
